Bitcoin Goals

It’s not a currency, it’s a store of value”. The great use-case debate for Bitcoin has raged on for over a decade, but one thing is for sure: more and more companies are starting to accept Bitcoin for payment. And that includes football clubs:

  • Oxford City FC became the latest sports club to start allowing Bitcoin payments for tickets and food and drinks for the new season starting August 6th.
  • They have entered a ‘multi-year partnership’ with CoinCorner, who process Bitcoin transactions via the Lightning network, and will sport a BTC logo on their matchday shirts.
  • Users can transact using CoinCorner’s ‘The Bolt Card’, the world’s first contactless card for Bitcoin.
  • Oxford City are in the sixth division of English football (National League South) and the first National League team to make this move.
  • Premier League teams currently have cryptocurrency sponsorship deals and even pay some players’ bonuses in Bitcoin.
  • The number of sports clubs accepting Bitcoin has increased in recent years, with some of the higher profile names including RCD Espanyol in La Liga and Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks.

Not to be left behind, Peter McCormack has also jumped into this game, buying ninth-division Real Bedford football club with Premier League ambitions. That is, of course, assuming he can cope with the financial damages he has to pay Dr. Craig Wright.
