Impunity

Purgatory can be a long walk, especially when tormented by the devil himself. For those following the ongoing FTX and SBF saga, questions are stacking up about why he isn’t yet in custody or being destroyed by the press. Far from it, it seems:

  • Although he’s lost control of FTX, it appears SBF is still in control of his Twitter account.
  • Early yesterday he started a 10-tweet thread, which eventually spelled out “What HAPPENED“. This was followed by a legal and financial disclaimer, and the claim that his “memory might be faulty in parts“.
  • Of the many theories behind his motive, some commentators thought this might be Sam setting up a claim for insanity. But some had darker theories.
  • Some users suggested that he may be tweeting while deleting older tweets “so that bots won’t detect” a change in tweet count. However, CMSIntern was able to show that it was other accounts that had deleted tweets, which SBF had retweeted (many from Tom Brady).
  • Last night the New York Times published a recent interview with him, which appeared to soften his image somewhat. Critics quickly pointed out that many words associated with crime were missing and Elon Musk askedWhy the puff piece @nytimes?“.

Many others in the space are determined to just ignore the latest developments and get back to basics. As a great poet once said: “Here may indeed be torment, but not death“.
