Star Atlas Shrugged

Market Meditations | September 30, 2022

At its pinnacle during the last bull run, blockchain gaming was in a league of its own. We saw projects like Axie Infinity, Illuvium, and Star Atlas gain mass attention – and it was reflected in their native tokens’ prices.

Fast forward to today, and the fall from grace has been harsh. Some projects have suffered greatly, while others have been entirely abandoned. A precious few remain building.

  • Star Atlas is a futuristic space-themed massive-multiplayer roleplaying game (MMORPG) built on Solana using Unreal Engine 5.
  • Star Atlas just released its first pre-alpha demo on the Epic Games Store, providing potential players an idea of what the final version may look like.
  • Users will be able to play as a pilot with the option to summon Ship NFTs into a Showroom for a closer, interactive glimpse.
  • To say the scope of Star Atlas is ambitious is a severe understatement, with an official release target date as far out as 5 years. Some gamers and creators, including Illuvium Founder Kieran Warwick, have compared it to Star Citizen – a conventional game with over 10 years of development behind it, yet still residing in the alpha stages of production.

The alpha release is being made available through the Epic Games Store, which is no surprise considering competitor platforms like Steam and Mojang have taken clear anti-NFT stances during the height of NFT gaming hype.
